Storm shelter / tornado doors:
We customize storm shelter/ tornado door based on your specific need.Tornadoes, hurricanes, downbursts and other violent weather can produce winds in excess of 250mph, turning items like cars and trees into deadly projectiles and propelling them distances in excess of 100 yards. Doors are constructed in accordance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) guidelines and the International Code Council’s (ICC-500) standard for tornado shelter doors. This design is based on extensive research on the cause and effects of windstorm damage to buildings. When combined with a shelter that also adheres to FEMA guidelines and ICC standards, a Storm safe door will provide a high degree of occupant protection during extreme windstorms (tornados and hurricanes). Testing on Storm Safe doors was performed at Texas Tech University’s Wind Science and Engineering Research Center. FEMA 320 doors typically swing into the storm shelter and are available in a variety of sizes up to 4/0 x 9/0. Commercial storm shelter require entrances be protected with FEMA 361 doors. These doors are tested in the same manner as the FEMA 320 door; however, the locking device is typically required to offer single motion egress using an integral lever trim. FEMA 361 doors include a 14 gauge steel, welded frame assembly, hinges and a multi-point locking system allowing for single motion locking and single motion egress out of the storm shelter. Electrified and panic devices are also available for use on FEMA 361 doors.
